Fuel efficiency is a priority for many Mitsubishi drivers. Here at Schaumburg Mitsubishi, we’ve put together a list of tips to help you maximize your vehicle’s gas mileage. Following these suggestions will help you save money — and it will benefit the environment, too.
Take it easy on the pedal. Getting better gas mileage can be as simple as checking your driving habits. Pushing your vehicle by accelerating quickly and braking harshly can increase the amount of fuel your car uses. Driving the speed limit and using cruise control will also allow you to increase your fuel efficiency.
Care for your tires. Tire pressure can greatly affect how fuel efficient your vehicle is. If your car’s tires are properly inflated, you can actually reduce fuel consumption by 3 percent. When your tires are under-inflated, your fuel consumption will increase.
Don’t idle. If you keep your engine running while you’re not driving, this can greatly increase the amount of fuel your vehicle consumes. Instead, turn your engine off while you’re waiting and turn it back on when you’re ready to head off.
Keep your car’s weight down. When you load your vehicle up with cargo, it adds weight. This puts a strain on your vehicle’s engine, causing it to work harder and therefore burn more fuel. It’s fine if you’re loading up your vehicle occasionally, but try to make sure you’re not keeping too much extra cargo in it on a regular basis.
Follow your owner’s manual. As appealing as premium fuel may seem, this type of gas might not be the best option for your vehicle. Every vehicle’s owner’s manual has a recommended type of fuel in it. Make sure you keep to this recommendation to help your fuel economy be the best it can possibly be.
